Nef looked over her shoulder at her brother. The whole time they were out side the junkyard, Alex, kept creeping around like everything thing was out to get him. The closer they had come to the center the more agitated and careful he became. It was wildly amusing watching him try to find placed to hide from the human's eyes.
"Why do you hide so much? They are the same as the people back in Egypt." She questioned when the amusement of his fear had gone.
"These people are not the same. They hate and fear dogs and if we aren't careful they could take us to the pound or the lab." He replied with a shudder at the thought of being taken away and experimented on.
Nefertiti rolled her eyes and proceeded to walk cautionlessly into the Center. In Hawthorn Center there was a fountain. It had been days since Nef had properly bathed and decided to turn the fountain into her own personal shower. The water poured over her body washing away the dirt and the smell of the junkyard.
"You should probably do the same Horus. You reek of garbage and your fur is filthy. "
Alex looked around fearfully and then slowly stepped into the fountain. Once the cool water splashed over him all his thoughts for the moment were lost. It was true that he hadn't really bathed in weeks in fear that if he leaved the boundaries of the packlands he would be captured. It wasn't until he heard shouts and quick footsteps that he escaped the trance. People were shouting and pointing at them. The clean water had a bit of a brown tint and hairs floated on the surface. A man with a net came running after them. What started out as panic turned to adrenaline as he leaped from the water and ran off, Nefertiti at his heels.
The man didn't give up easily and he chased them for several blocks. Alex didn't bother looking back to see when the had finally lost him nor did he stop running until he reached the confines of the junkyard. As the duo slowed to a halt he heard a chuckle escape from Nef.
"That was fun!" She exclaimed after finally catching a breath.
They could of been caught and never released. No one would know where they were or what happened to them. Alex was sick of Nefertiti's selfishness and lack of a sense of danger. Boy was she going to get an earful.
